The music is in tune and it really gives the medieval/fantasy feel that you should expect from a game in the Ultima series. Only criticisms are that at least one of the tunes was cut short and a couple of the instruments used sounded slightly out of place. Besides that, they're good mods. Utopia: Game rip ""We're reaching a major BREATHROUGH!"" (by rambutaan, 10 Nov 2002) [10/10] Ah, Utopia. An excellent sci-fi strategy game with great MOD music. Nothing to complain about here. All the mods from the game are here (all 4 of them) and all of them are of high quality with great beats. There's even a synth version of Pachebel's Canon! Great music! Worms: Game rip "First blood!" (by rambutaan, 10 Nov 2002) [4/10] I don't know if it's just me, but this rip of the music sounds a lot duller than how I originally imagined the Worms theme. However it is authentic and maintains the original melody and sound effects. Okay, but I've heard better Worms music. Xenon 2: The Megablast: Game rip "None can outrun or equal the power of the original" (by rambutaan, 10 Nov 2002) [2/10] Great game and it had a great soundtrack based on the 80s hit Megablast by Bomb the Bass. These remixes unfortunately are rather low quality. bomb_the_bass.mod manages to stay on the beat although the bitrate is low. miniblast.mod deviates considerably from the original melody and is unfortunately quite simplistic. Xenon 2 - Megablast.mod 's tempo is too slow and the final mod, xenon2.xm is okay except in the last 10 seconds or so. I recommend the original track if you really want to remind yourself of Xenon 2 rather than these remixes. UFO: Enemy Unknown: Game rip "Eerie X-COM Main Title sets the mood" (by rambutaan, 10 Nov 2002) [5/10] Not much of a melody in this tune, but it's authentic and indeed from the main menu screen of X-COM. I was slightly disappointed that the archive didn't come with the Intro theme or the 'rockin' (okay not quite ;)) Interceptor theme or any of the other music in the game, although what is contained is good, if rather bland. Good mood music though :). Star Control 2: Game rip "We come in peace!" (by rambutaan, 10 Nov 2002) [9/10] I actually got into Star Control 2 late, when I read that this game got mentioned as having one of the top 10 game soundtracks ever by GameSpot(http://www.gamespot.com/features/tenspot_music/page9.html). Star Control 2's music was way ahead of its time, with lots of memorable techno tracks that you wouldn't even be ashamed to play in public (well, not too much ;)). Most of the tracks from the game are contained in here and there are many good ones. A few of them are just ambient stuff but all in all they're very good quality. Highly recommended! Monkey Island 2: Game rip "Excellent quality MODs enhances injection of nostalgia" (by rambutaan, 10 Nov 2002) [9/10] The best quality music based on Monkey Island 2 I have heard yet. Great Reggae, Blues and Funk was what made the Monkey Island 2 soundtrack memorable - it just suited the setting of the Carribean so well. I would've given this archive 10/10 if it weren't for the beginning of the Monkey Island 2 Main Theme sounding a bit dull and the fact there's only 4 mods in total. Overall though, top stuff! Moochies, The: Game rip "Moochies music is fun to listen to" (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [10/10] The music is very good - it has the same quality as the lemmings tunes. I could also hear some Remixes, for example a "Spy Hunter"-passage in the moochieslevel5.mod. I give this excellent collection of tunes a full 10 points out of 10. Mr. Heli: Game rip "When you love the TV test image - this is something for you..." (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [1/10] The music from Mr.Heli is loud and catastrophal. Sounds like someone made these tunes in only 1 minute. I can't recommend it. 1 point. Manic miner PC: Game rip "A full classical orchestra in one single game" (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [8/10] The tunes from Manic Miner are all in one single MOD. But they weren't originally created for the game. It's like Lemmings - they're are all classic or other tunes, but they sound great. Maniac Mansion (C64): Arranged/Remixed tunes "Commodore 64 music made with Amiga hardware" (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [7/10] This tune sounds nearly like the original C64 version of the Maniac Mansion intro. But it's not exactly the same - that's why I recommend the .sid-version. Because the Maniac Mansion tune is together with Zak McKracken's intro tune one of the best. Maniac Mansion: Arranged/Remixed tunes "Dave's Theme on the Nintendo Entertainment System" (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [4/10] The "dave theme" is a very rocking tune - and it's from the NES version of the game. It sounds nice but it isn't as perfect as the original tunes from the game (intro, LP). Helicopter Jagd: Arranged/Remixed tunes "The fly with the heli" (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [5/10] I did never play the game but the music sound very slow and like you are flying with a helicopter high in the sky and look on the ground. But it's nice - only bad that it was made with the C64 soundchip. Chuck Rock: Game rip "A well-tracked classic !" (by Zeugma, 7 Nov 2002) [10/10] Chuck Rock theme rocks ! This flawless MOD version as well ! Earthbound: Arranged/Remixed tunes "Alien Invasion and some ambient and western tunes." (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [5/10] How can I say? The music is very funny, it's a bit western style but also got jazz, asian and ambient tunes - several differently sounding tunes. It's a great mix of these musics but also has the uncomparable Earthbound flair. Jazz Jackrabbit 2: Game rip "a more jazzy jackrabbit" (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [6/10] The music of part 2 is more jazzy than the first part - not anymore rock. But the game also got some good tracks that fit the game more than perfectly - i.e. the medieval music or the jungle music. It's a great soundtrack for a great game soon to get a third part :) Jazz Jackrabbit: Game rip "The ambiently rock jackrabbit" (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [6/10] The music is more ambient like, and also a bit rock-type (because of the guitar in some tracks). The good thing is that nearly every level of the game got it's own music, and it does fit the game perfectly. But it's nothing extraordinaire, so only a solid 6 points. Brat: Game rip "a baby tune" (by Grizzly, 7 Nov 2002) [9/10] This review is only about the intro music from BRAT, because I don't know where to get all music tracks from the whole game. The intro is very melodic, with some funny instruments - don't know how they are called. It's one of these musics you can listen to the whole day (length: 3:38 without loop) without getting bored. Monkey Island 2: Game rip "monkey isle 2" (by pug, 7 Nov 2002) [7/10] nice. brings back great memories :) Magic Pockets: Game rip "This track could also be in the 80's music charts" (by Grizzly, 6 Nov 2002) [6/10] Magic Pockets on Amiga has only one single music track in the intro, the rest of the game you hear only your footsteps and some enemy noises. But the intro track is a great tune, the quality is very fine and it also has some vocal samples (no speech). It sounds like a real 80's-hit :) But I gave it only 6 points because it's not my favourite style of music.
