  • "The old classic RTS game" (by Warcow, 19 Dec 2011) [10/10]
A cool old classic real time strategy game which is a milestone of its genre and the music is good and fits the game really well. It has no ambient tracks, just plain songs with an own typical sound, which is great! I dig it and especially fans of old pcgame music will probably also do that. Another scoreupdate.

  • "Great music, but a bit weird on GM..." (by frostcircus, 11 Jul 2004) [9/10]
Easily one of the best game soundtracks I've ever heard; sadly these MIDIs do not do it justice. Given the limited technology, the game did a great job with its custom sounds (though my friend had to play with the sound off because the hihats sounded exactly like his alarm clock's buzzer), but when played on a GM setup, most of the tracks just sound ...wrong.

My score is based on the music itself. I set up my old PC just to install this and record the music on my newer system - I can't think of any other games I've done this for. :)

  • "A Classic" (by Delance, 11 Oct 2004) [9/10]
This is one of the best soundtracks for the PC. Excellent job. The music really gives the game a great boost.

  • "Battle on Arrakis" (by animoL, 7 Dec 2004) [10/10]
The music is so good that even in Dune 2000 it was just improved but continued similar to the old mids.
Played a lot on my old 486. Got the game from a BBS, before knowing what internet was. Loved every moment of it.

  • "Excellent, but only with MT-32" (by TuomasT, 7 Oct 2006) [10/10]
The game's music was obviously designed for the Roland MT-32 sound module, the GM track does not even begin to do it justice.

That said, I feel the music is one of the best game soundtracks. Style is athmosperic combined with fast action, just like the game.

  • "Neat rip. But the MT-32 version lacks the SysEx." (by Kaminari, 28 May 2007) [8/10]
ShaiWa already made a perfect rip (albeit without proper title tags) and it comes complete with a SysEx for the MT-32 version. get it here:

Facts / description

This archive includes both the GM and MT versions (34 songs each) completely
re-ripped by myself and the additional tune from the previous archive, all
songs are named.

The tunes were converted from 'C55' files, which were actually XMI files with
subsongs. The old archive wasn't very accurate; the tempo was way off
(too fast and erratic) and the instruments didn't change on cue. I used Awave
Studio to turn them into midi files, and guarantee 100% accuracy.

I had considered including the XMIs, but figured it wasn't necessary.

If you have any questions or soundtrack requests, send me an E-mail through
my profile.

Info from crumby2:

The file MT/init/Dune_init.mid is the init file (sysex data) required for
the MT32 soundtrack of Dune 2. It must be played once before playing the
various midi files or they won't sound correct.
Found this on a forum. credits for this init file : ShaiWa
