Characteristics:

Handheld which came to the tough fight with Nindendo Game Boy Color and together with color version was rather successful in Japan (10% market share). Unfortunately, it was released only in Japan and all games are in Japanese.

Oswan - Currently the best choice, I think. Though the compatility is not 100%, it has sound support and a GUI. Link is to Zophar's Domain emulators archive, because original homepage (http://members.jcom.home.ne.jp/wscamp/) didn't seem to work.
